Background of the study:
Hair texture is a phenotypic trait that has long been linked with genetic ancestry and ethnic heritage. In Badagry, a region known for its rich cultural diversity, variations in hair texture may reflect the complex genetic admixture of its inhabitants. Recent genetic studies have indicated that specific allelic variations can influence the curliness, coarseness, and overall structure of hair (Ibrahim, 2023). This research examines the intersection between phenotypic expression and genetic lineage, considering the role of ancestral markers that have been passed down through generations (Chinwe, 2024). Additionally, the study explores the sociocultural implications of hair texture and its association with ethnic identity in a cosmopolitan setting like Badagry. Environmental factors and migration patterns may also interact with genetic predispositions, influencing hair characteristics (Obi, 2025). By integrating both genetic analysis and anthropological insights, this study seeks to elucidate the degree to which hair texture serves as a reliable indicator of genetic ancestry. The findings are expected to contribute to broader discussions in population genetics and cultural anthropology, providing a nuanced understanding of identity formation in multiethnic societies (Adebola, 2024).
Statement of the problem:
There is limited empirical research linking hair texture to genetic ancestry within the diverse community of Badagry. The absence of comprehensive genetic data and anthropological correlation hinders the understanding of how genetic factors influence hair traits. Consequently, establishing a clear relationship between these variables is essential to enhance knowledge on ethnic identity markers and support future genetic studies in the region.

Research Hypotheses:
Significance of the study:
This study will contribute to the fields of population genetics and cultural anthropology by clarifying the relationship between hair texture and genetic ancestry. The findings can enhance genetic profiling and enrich discussions on identity formation in multiethnic contexts (Ibrahim, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is limited to assessing the relationship between hair texture and genetic ancestry among residents of Badagry Local Government Area. It does not address external factors beyond genetic determinants.
